The Saiyan Saga:

Seven years have passed since the Dragon Ball series. Goku and Chichi now have a son named Gohan. As they were having a reunion at the Kame House when Goku's evil brother Radditz shows up. He tries to convince Goku to come with him and tells him that he is a Saiyan. And about what Saiyans do (Sell planets etc.). He told Goku if he would not come then he would take his son instead. Then Goku found an unlikely ally in his arch enemy Piccolo. They teamed up to fight him but their combined strength was not enough against the powerful Radditz. Piccolo tells Goku about a special attack that he had learned and that he was saving it for him. But it takes piccolo a long time to power up for this move so Goku had to go it alone for 5 minutes. Finally Piccolo is ready for his attack he launches it but it misses. After Radditz dishes out some punishment more on Goku, Gohan has had about as much as he can stand. He bursts out of the space pod and delivers a blow to "Uncle Radditz".

This weakened Radditz allot allowing Goku to get him in a "Full-nelson" type grab as Piccolo powered up his attack again and launched and within a few minutes both Radditz and Goku were dead. But not after Piccolo told Radditz about the Dragon Balls which the other saiyans Nappa and Vegeta heard. Radditz then told Piccolo that two more saiyans would arrive in one year. Both of them more powerful than him! Here everyone goes off into three different groups. Piccolo takes Gohan to train with him so he can use his great power to assist them in the battle with the saiyans. Krllin, Yamcha, Tien, Chouzu, and Yajerobi all went to the top of Karin tower to receive special training from Kami-sama himself. And Goku set off for King -kai's place at the end of the 100,000 mile snake way!

Piccolo abandons Gohan in the wilderness for his survival training. After getting attacked by most every creature in the area Gohan makes friend with a dinosaur who gets killed by a T-rex but the loss only makes Gohan stronger. Goku hitches a ride on a street sweeper on snake way only to fall off into the Home For infinite losers! Otherwise known as hell. He competes against the ogres one is super strong the other is super fast but Goku easily defeats both of them thus getting back on to snake way but having to start all over again. He then stops at Princess Snakes and barely escapes! When he finally reaches King Kai's he trains extensively learning the kaoken and Spirit bomb (Genki-Dama) techniques. Piccolo then rejoins Gohan and trains some more.

One year has passed, the Saiyans finally arrive and everyone regroups on the battlefield. The saiyans plant saibamin who grow and are ready to fight! Yamcha goes first it looks like he one against one but it jumps on him and self-destructs killing Yamcha! Krillin in a burst of rage attacks with a giant blast which kills all the saibamin. Nappa begins to attack, both Tien and Chouzu lose their lives in the struggle. Piccolo and Krillin decide to attack Piccolo grabs Nappa's tail but gets hammered. While Gohan stands in fear and watches. Vegeta calls a 3 hour break to wait for Goku Gohan decides to go home but Nappa stops him.

The 3 hours is up and Goku is not there yet. Nappa powers up and sends a gigantic blast toward Gohan. Then Suddenly Piccolo of all people sacrifices his life for Gohan thus him and Kami die and the dragon balls fade away. Right as Gohan is about to be murdered Goku shows up. Nappa can't lay a hand on him so Vegeta tells him to stop. Then Nappa says what will I do for fun then he heads straight for Krillin and Gohan. Forcing Goku to use the kao-ken attack rendering Nappa helpless. Vegeta then kills his own teammate! Krillin and Gohan speed off for the kame house. As Goku and Vegeta fly a safe distance away from the cities. Now they face off and like the title says "Goku vs. Vegeta A saiyan duel" They fought it out until Vegeta decided to use his Galic Gun and Blow the whole the earth up Goku countered with a kao-ken x3 Kamehameha which makes their beams evenly matched until goku uses his kao-ken x4 and blows Vegeta away. Vegeta then realizes he will have to transform to beat Goku he throws an artificial light ball in the sky and does so(he learns the move from goku's father bardock). It does not take long for Goku to realize he is no match for oozaru Vegeta.

Gohan and krillin turn around and see the light ball and go back only to discover that Vegeta has Transformed! They almost succeed at cutting him back down to size but fail. But wait Yajerobi comes and cuts off Vegeta's tail but he is not done yet! He attacks Gohan and Goku hands Krillin a piece of a spirit bomb. After King Kai told him how to use he threw it and missed Vegeta!!!! Luckily Gohan reflected it back and it found it's target. But Vegeta isn't done yet. Vegeta had noticed Gohan's Tail earlier but got distracted. Gohan transformed but Vegeta managed to cut his tail off but could not get out of the way in time and was crushed! Vegeta was almost in his space pod but Krillin put Yajerobi's sword to his throat and could have easily killed him, but goku told him not to and as you see later (Not quite yet if you watch only the dubbed version) that this was a very very wise decision! Vegeta then climbs in and takes off telling them that they will regret letting him go!! The others finally arrive and take Goku to the hospital.

On the way there they found out there are other Dragon balls on planet Namek but then they face the problem of getting there! While standing in the hospital Mr. Popo come to the window and says he knows of a space ship that can get them to Namek! Reluctantly Bulma hops on the carpet and finds the ship and it works! Bulma's father fixes sit up and it is ready to go but Goku is not healed yet so Gohan Krillin and Bulma go. On the way they encounter shape shifting aliens that trick them and almost steal their ship! They run into a ship with a mirror like coating and almost get killed. And after all this they finally arrive on planet Namek!
